Taraweeh Reflection
Day 17: Juzz 17
Everyone shall taste death
(Qur’an 21:35)
This verse is from Qur’an, in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:35).
⸻
Meaning of the Verse
“Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as a trial; and to Us you will be returned.”
This powerful verse reminds us of three fundamental realities of life:
1️⃣ The certainty of death
Allah begins with a universal truth:
“Every soul will taste death.”
No person escapes it — rich or poor, young or old, powerful or weak. The word “taste” (ذائقة) suggests that death is not annihilation but a transition to the next stage of existence.
This reminder softens our attachment to the temporary world and encourages us to prepare for what comes after.
⸻
2️⃣ Life is a test through both hardship and ease
Allah says:
“We test you with evil and with good as a trial.”
Many people think tests only come in difficulty—illness, loss, or hardship. But Allah clarifies that both are tests:
•Evil / hardship → tests our patience (ṣabr)
•Good / blessings → tests our gratitude (shukr)
Health, wealth, success, and comfort can be just as much of a test as poverty or difficulty. The question is always:
How will we respond?
⸻
3️⃣ Our final return is to Allah
The verse ends with a powerful conclusion:
“And to Us you will be returned.”
Every action, intention, and response to life’s tests will ultimately be brought before Allah. This return gives meaning to our struggles and our blessings, because nothing is wasted in Allah’s sight.

Taraweeh Reflection 🌙
During nights of Taraweeh in Ramadan, this verse encourages us to pause and reflect:
•The world is temporary.
•Our circumstances—good or bad—are part of a divine test.
•Our true destination is with Allah.
So when we face hardship, we remember it is a test of patience.
When we receive blessings, we remember it is a test of gratitude.
The believer walks through life asking:
Am I responding to Allah’s test in a way that brings me closer to Him?
⸻
✅ Short takeaway for reflection:
Life is not random. Every joy and every difficulty is a test from Allah, and the ultimate success is returning to Him with faith, patience, and gratitude.
