6 Principles of Interpersonal Lessons from Surah Al-Hujurat
1. Verify Information Before Believing or Spreading It
📖 Verse 49:6
O you who believe, if a sinful person brings you news, verify it, lest you harm people out of ignorance and then become regretful for what you have done.
Key Words
•فَتَبَيَّنُوا (fatabayyanū) – Verify / investigate
•نَبَإ (naba’) – News or information
Lesson
•Do not spread rumours or unverified news.
•Always check facts before reacting or sharing information.
2. Make Peace Between People in Conflict
📖 Verse 49:9
If two groups of believers fight, make peace between them. If one group oppresses the other, fight the oppressing group until it returns to the command of Allah. Then if it returns, reconcile them with justice, and be fair. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.
Key Words
•فَأَصْلِحُوا (fa-asliḥū) – Reconcile / make peace
•بِالْعَدْلِ (bil-ʿadl) – With justice
•الْمُقْسِطِينَ (al-muqsiṭīn) – Those who act fairly
Lesson
•Promote peace and fairness when disputes occur.
•Justice must guide reconciliation.
3. Remember the Brotherhood of Believers
📖 Verse 49:10
The believers are but brothers, so make peace between your brothers and fear Allah so that you may receive mercy.
Key Words
•إِخْوَة (ikhwah) – Brotherhood
•فَأَصْلِحُوا (fa-asliḥū) – Reconcile
Lesson
•Muslims should treat each other like family.
•Unity and reconciliation are essential.
4. Do Not Mock or Humiliate Others
📖 Verse 49:11
O believers, let not one group mock another, for they may be better than them; nor women mock other women. Do not insult one another or call each other by offensive nicknames.

5. Avoid Suspicion, Spying, and Backbiting
📖 Verse 49:12
O believers, avoid much suspicion, for some suspicion is sin. Do not spy on one another and do not backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it.
Key Words
•اجْتَنِبُوا الظَّنّ (ijtanibū aẓ-ẓann) – Avoid suspicion
•لَا تَجَسَّسُوا (lā tajassasū) – Do not spy

6. Human Equality and True Honor

O mankind, We created you from a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another. Indeed, the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.
Key Words
•لِتَعَارَفُوا (li-taʿārafū) – So that you may know one another
