Reminder of Accountability, Power of the Quran & Understanding Allah
Surah Al-Hashr (59:18–24) these verses emphasise self-accountability, remembrance of Allah, reflection on the Qur’an, and understanding Allah’s names and attributes.
Surah Al-Hashr (59:18–24)
Verse 18
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلْتَنظُرْ نَفْسٌ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ لِغَدٍ ۖ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
“O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow—and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.”
Key Lessons
•Believers must practice self-reflection and accountability.
•Life is preparation for the “tomorrow” of the Hereafter.
•Allah is fully aware of every action, intention, and deed.
Verse 19
وَلَا تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ نَسُوا اللَّهَ فَأَنسَاهُمْ أَنفُسَهُمْ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ
“And be not like those who forgot Allah, so He made them forget themselves. Those are the defiantly disobedient.”
Key Lessons
•Forgetting Allah leads to losing one’s true purpose and identity.
•Spiritual neglect causes moral corruption.
•Remembrance of Allah protects the heart and soul.
Verse 20
لَا يَسْتَوِي أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ وَأَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ ۚ أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ هُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ
“Not equal are the companions of the Fire and the companions of Paradise. The companions of Paradise—they are the successful.”
Key Lessons
•There is a clear distinction between the outcomes of belief and disbelief.
•True success is attaining Paradise, not worldly status.
•A believer’s priorities should focus on the Hereafter.
Verse 21
لَوْ أَنزَلْنَا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلٍ لَّرَأَيْتَهُ خَاشِعًا مُّتَصَدِّعًا مِّنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَتِلْكَ الْأَمْثَالُ نَضْرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
“If We had sent down this Qur’an upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and splitting apart from fear of Allah. And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought.”
Key Lessons
•The Qur’an carries immense spiritual weight.
•Even mountains would humble themselves before its message.
•Humans are encouraged to reflect deeply on its guidance.
Verse 22
هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ ۖ هُوَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ الرَّحِيمُ
English
“He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. He is the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.”
Key Lessons
•Allah alone deserves worship (Tawheed).
•His knowledge covers everything hidden and visible.
•His mercy encompasses all creation.
Verse 23
هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ السَّلَامُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمُهَيْمِنُ الْعَزِيزُ الْجَبَّارُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ ۚ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
“He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity: the Sovereign, the Pure, the Source of Peace, the Granter of Security, the Overseer, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.”
Key Lessons
•Allah has absolute sovereignty and perfection.
•True peace and security come only from Him.
•These names reveal Allah’s power, purity, and authority.
Verse 24
هُوَ اللَّهُ الْخَالِقُ الْبَارِئُ الْمُصَوِّرُ ۖ لَهُ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ
“He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.”

•Allah is the Creator and Designer of all existence.
•Everything in creation glorifies Him constantly.
•Learning Allah’s beautiful names strengthens faith and trust in Him.
